Color Me Pretty
Considering the Effects of Permanent Color

Every women longs for change at some point in their lives. Changes at home, changes on the job, but more likely we long for changes in our hair. And what better way to change things up than a splash of color? Colored tresses are an easy way to add a touch of flare to our every day look, but at what cost? Before you decide on a color change, consider the effects that the color could have on the health of your strands.

One of the worst color decisions that we could possibly make is going lighter. After you lighten up your strands, you can certainly expect them to feel dryer than they usually feel. This occurs for two reasons: 1)The lighter you go, the harder it's going to be for your strands to actually absorb moisture. 2)The chemicals in the lightener die dries out your tresses. So you might end up with beautiful color in dry hair that can't absorb moisture, not to mention more split ends than you can count. Now of course this doesn't happen in all cases, but it's a very common issue.

Another common issue is the lack of flexibility that comes along with permanent color. I know that you’re wondering what in the world flexibility has to do with anything. Well without it, our strands could break whenever we comb through them. Permanent Color reduces our strands ability to flex. This can result in more breakage whenever you try to manipulate your strands.

As if that isn’t enough, permanent color also robs our strands of their strength like relaxers. The lighter you go, the weaker your strands are going to be. This can mean even more breakage for your newly colored locks.

The bottom line is, the lighter you go, the more damage you’re at risk of suffering. Before you decide to change up your look with a splash of color, make sure that you’re ready to intensify your healthy hair care regime. You’re going to need it, trust me! If you've already taken the plunge into the pool of color, don’t fret. We at eSalonSpace have you covered! Next week I'll give you tips on how to maintain the health of your colored strands. Just get ready to do the work. Until then, get educated, get motivated, get involved.
